Bangladesh club wants Bhutia on loan
September 11, 2003 18:50 IST
Offers seem to be pouring in for Baichung Bhutia. The star striker is now being sought after by a Bangladesh club even before he can complete his assignment for Malaysian outfit Perak FC.
The Bangladesh side, Brothers Union, has requested East Bengal to lend Bhutia for their local engagements, club football secretary Santosh Bhattacharjee said at Kolkata on Thursday.
East Bengal, however, have refused to release the Sikkimese ace after his two-month stint with Perak ends early next month.
"We have already released him for two months to Perak. We are not going to do that again," Bhattacharjee said.
Meanwhile, the club, which got an invitation from Vietnam Football Federation for the JVC Cup, has virtually dropped the idea after India coach Stephen Constantine ruled out release of players in the national camp for the Afro-Asian Games.
"We had arranged for sponsorship. We also requested for release of our players. But since the national coach has ruled out their release, it is difficult for us to take part in the tournament," he said.
