Top seeds have it easy

Top seed Liza Pereira, Archana Venkataraman, Ankita Bhambri and Isha Lakhani registered comfortable victories to move into round three in the $5,000 ITF women's tennis circuit third leg at the DLTA Complex in Delhi on Wednesday.
Top seed and last leg's winner Pereira dismissed the experienced Madura Ranganathan 6-3, 6-0 while second seed Lakhani beat Japanese challenger Aya Oasa 6-1, 6-2.
Fourth seed and teen sensation Bhambri, after a tough fight from Lata Assudani in the second set, took the match 6-3, 7-5, while fifth seed Archana Venkatraman whizzed past a hapless Rati Kumar 6-1, 6-0 in quick time.
Sixth seed Sheetal Gautam also won her match against Vishika Chhetri, 7-5, 6-4.
While the top seeds sailed through to the third round, unseeded Yamini Thukkaiandi upset seventh seed Preety Rao 6-4, 6-2.
In the other matches, Sonal Phadke, who had registered an easy victory in her first round match on Tuesday, was stretched under the Delhi sun by third seed Shruti Dhawan.
Phadke, however, managed to hold on in the gruelling three-setter and win 6-2, 4-6, 6-3.
In another marathon encounter, eighth seed Kamini Murugaboopathy overcame a stiff challenge from Ragini Vimal to move into the next round. Murugaboopathy won 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
