Hockey team's announcement deferred

The Indian Hockey Federation postponed the announcement of the team for the four-nation, two-leg, invitational tournament in Australia after its president KPS Gill postponed his visit to Bangalore, where 31 probables are being put through their paces.

The team was supposed to be announced on Tuesday but as Gill did not make it to Bangalore, the announcement of was put off to Wednesday. However, he played truant again.

Karnataka State Hockey Association officials said the selection trials would now be held on May 17 and 18.

The probables are undergoing coaching at the Sports Authority of India, Southern Centre, since April 28, under the watchful eyes of chief coach Rajinder Singh and assistant coaches Harender Singh and Balbir Singh. Former India coach A B Subaiah is coaching the goalkeepers.

Besides India, Australia, Australia 'A' and Pakistan are participating in the tournament, scheduled to begin from May 28.

Australia and Pakistan have already announced their teams for the tournament.
