Clijsters meets doubles partner
June 28, 2003 18:35 IST
Kim Clijsters wrecked Samantha Reeves's Wimbledon hopes for a second year in a row on Friday, beating the American 6-1, 6-2 to reach the fourth round.
The Belgian second seed, who has raced through the first week of the tournament dropping only seven games in three matches, took 50 minutes to dispose of Reeves, whom she beat in the first round last year.
"I feel like I started well in my first match but today I think was even a little better," Clijsters, runner-up at the French Open said.
Clijsters raced to a 5-0 lead before conceding a game to the 24-year-old Reeves, ranked 109 in the world. She allowed Reeves the first two games of the second then rattled off the next six as if in a hurry to get home.
In the fourth round on Monday, Clijsters meets her doubles partner Ai Sugiyama, who won when the pair met in the final of the Scottsdale WTA tournament in March.
"Ai is the type of player that can play some unbelievable tennis," the Belgian said. "She hardly makes any easy mistakes. She'll always make you work to win each point.
"It will be a matter of being very aggressive, trying to let her move a lot and stay aggressive."
