June 12, 2003 21:45 IST
It was a fine day for Indians as three home challengers entered the semi-finals in the $5000 ITF men's Satellite tennis tournament in Chandigarh on Thursday.
Second seed Prakash Amritraj squeeked past Eliran Dooyev of Israel 6-2, 6-4 while Mustafa Ghouse ousted fourth seed Ajay Ramaswami 3-6, 7-2 (7/5), 6-3 in the quarter-finals.
Vijay Kannan is the other Indian to reach the last four stage. He scored a facile 6-4, 6-1 victory over compatriot Vinod Sridhar.
Febi Widhiyanto of Indonesia is the lone foreigner to make it to the semis. He held his nerve through two tie-breakers to win 1-6, 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/5) over Takeshi Itho of Japan.
In Friday's semi-finals, Vijay Kannan will take on Widhiyanto while Amritraj will meet Mustafa Ghouse.
In the doubles, Mustafa Ghouse and Vishal Uppal reached the final as the pair of Sanchai Ratiwatana and Sonchat Ratiwatana conceded the match after leading in the first set 2-1.
They will meet the Amritraj cousins, Prakash and Stephen, in the final.
