Decision on Bryant case today
July 18, 2003 12:38 IST
Prosecutors in Colorado will announce on Friday whether NBA star Kobe Bryant will be charged with sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman during a recent visit to the state, the district attorney's office said on Thursday.
District Attorney Mark Hurlbert's office gave no indication on whether the Los Angeles Lakers guard will be charged when the decision is announced in Eagle, Colorado, about 100 miles (160 km) west of Denver at 5 p.m. EDT.
Hurlbert has been reviewing a report from the state crime laboratory, which has analyzed evidence in the case.
The young woman who has accused Bryant of assaulting her on June 30 works as a concierge at a four-star lodge near the resort town of Vail where Bryant was staying.
The alleged assault would have taken place the day before Bryant was scheduled for surgery at the prestigious Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail.
Bryant, 24, told the Los Angeles Times in an interview published on Sunday that he was innocent.
The investigation became public when the Eagle County sheriff's office announced on July 6 that an arrest warrant had been issued for Bryant.
Bryant had turned himself in two days earlier and posted a $25,000 bond.
