July 17, 2003 20:45 IST
India had a successful second day at the under-21 World snooker championship in Taupo, New Zealand, with all their three cueists scoring victories in their respective league matches.
National champion Pankaj Advani easily defeated Jamie O'Neil, the England under-19 and under-21 champion, 4-1 in Group F.
With his second successive victory, Advani, 18, heads his group along with Albert Kenny of Ireland.
In Group D, 17-year-old Aditya Mehta beat Adam Grabish of Australia 4-0. He also recorded his second victory in as many games.
Sourav Kothari, who lost his opening game on Wednesday, made amends today and defeated Majid Saeed Dhaif of Bahrain 4-1 in a Group E match.
The top four players from each group advance to the round of 32.
Meanwhile, defending champion Ding Junhui of China also continued his winning run, registering a clear-cut 4-0 verdict against Ramon Belmont of New Zealand.
Jamie Jones, the 15-year-old prodigy from Wales who had narrowly lost his opening match to Tian Pengfei of China yesterday, came back in telling fashion to defeat Hamed Saeed Dhaif of Bahrain 4-0.
Advani will take on Chang Lu Ku of Chinese Taipei tomorrow while Aditya plays Jamie Jones. Sourav is scheduled to play Jason Todd of New Zealand.
