Rivaldo voted the worst player
December 09, 2003 12:46 IST
Brazilian World Cup winner Rivaldo has been voted the worst player in 2003 by Italian radio listeners, pushing Al-Saadi Gaddafi, the son of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, into second place.
Rivaldo, who was released from his contract with European champions AC Milan at the beginning of December after making just one appearance this season, topped the poll for the 'Golden Dustbin' awarded by RAI radio's Catersport programme.
The Brazilian won 28 per cent of the votes from the more than 5,000 listeners who took part in the poll.
Al-Saadi Gaddafi, who signed for Serie A club Perugia in the close season but tested positive for norandrosterone, a metabolite of the steroid nandrolone, without having played for them in a competitive game, was second with 21.5 percent.
Udinese's German striker Carsten Jancker, who on Sunday scored only his second goal since joining the club 17 months ago, finished third in the vote.
Other players who featured in the top 10 were Italy and Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi, Lazio's Portuguese winger Sergio Conceicao and his Serbian club mate Sinisa Mihajlovic.
