We will prepare hard for Asia Cup: Pillay
August 26, 2003 11:16 IST
Skipper Dhanraj Pillay on Tuesday said the team will try to rectify the mistakes it committed during the Champions Trophy hockey tournament while preparing for next month's Asia Cup.
"I admit we failed to get penalty corners. Our defence was also not up to the mark and the forwardline made several errors. Probably that is why we lost so many matches in the tournament," said Pillay after the team's return from Amstelveen, where they finished fourth in the elite six-nation event.

"We will definitely work on these areas in the camp for the Asia Cup in Malaysia," he said. The team, which had raised expectations with back to back tournament wins in Australia and Germany, struggled in Amstelveen as they lost four of their six matches to miss out on a medal.
The disappointment was writ large on the face of the members of the side, who arrived at New Delhi after midnight, with many of them managing to give a slip to waiting reporters at the airport.
Coach Rajinder Singh, who had earlier termed the Champions Trophy a 'turning point' in India's attempt to regain it's past glory, declined to comment on the team's performance.
"I will submitt my report to the Indian Hockey Federation president, K P S Gill," he said.
Most of the players will leave for their homes later on Tuesday and will reassemble in Delhi early next month for the camp.
