Salgaocar whip ITI 3-0
April 09, 2003 20:16 IST
Stylish Goan outfit Salgaocar thrashed bottom placed ITI 3-0 to earn full points from their 19th encounter in the OIL-PSU seventh National Football League in Bangalore on Wednesday.
All the goals came in the second-half in a defence-oriented match, in which the Goans did not want to take any chance and bolstered their tally to 35 points.
ITI continued to languish last in the 12-team league with seven points.
The tenth win for Salgaocar was made possible by Jatin Bist, Climax Lawrence and Dharamjit Singh, who scored in that order. The final goal came seconds before the long whistle.
Salgaocar dished out better soccer and were in control for most of the time. Their scoreline could have been much bigger had Alex Ambrose, Samson Singh, Dharamjit Singh and Prasant Jaggi encashed the opportunities. But credit should also be given to the ITI defence, which managed to stop the Goan strikers on a couple of occasions.
ITI were all at sea against their formidable opponents as they could not make any gainful foray into their rival citadel and were contented to play second fiddle all through.
