Bhupathi-Miryni in round 2

Third seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Miryni of Belarus survived some anxious moments before making it to the second round in the men's doubles at the French Open tennis champonship. They beat Robbie Koenig of South Africa and Thomas Shimada of Japan 7-5, 7-5(5) in a late match on Thursday.

Bhupathi and Miryni were always in command. In the first set, games went with serve till they broke in the 12th game and proceded to win it.

In the second set, there were no breaks though Keonig and Shimada survived a few break points at 2-3.

In the tie-breaker, Bhupathi and Miryni went up two mini-breaks to 3-0, but surrendered a break each as the scores were tied at 5-5. However, they seized the next two points to win the set and match.

Bhupathi and Miryni take on George Basti of Switzerland and Albert Portas of Spain next.

Basti and Portas got the better of Paul Rosner of South Africa and Glenn Wesner of the United States 6-4, 6-4 in another first round match.

Earlier on Thursday, Bhupathi's former partner Leander Paes, with who he won the doubles crown at the French Open last year, partnering Tomas Cibulec of the Czech Republic, made it to the second round, beating Italy's Massimo Bertolini and Cristian Brandi 6-0, 6-2.

In the second round Paes and Cibulec meet Mardy Fish and Jeff Morrison of the United States, who rallied to get the better of Gregory Carraz and Nicolas Mahut, 3-6, 7- 6(6), 6-4 in the first round.
