Bhupathi-Mirnyi lose in
quarter-finals of Rome Masters

Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi of Belarus bowed out of the $2.95 million Rome Masters tennis doubles, losing to Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe in the quarter-finals on Friday.

The third seeds, who had got the better of Lucas Arnold and Gaston Etlis of Argentina 7-6(2), 6-4 in the second round on Thursday, lost 6-4, 4-6, 3-10 via the super tie-break.

Wayne Black and Kevin Ullyett had beaten Leander Paes and John-Laffnie Dejager of South Africa in the first round.

In other quarter-final matches, Joshua Eagle and Sandon Stolle of Australia beat Donald Johnson and Jared Palmer of the United States 7-6(2) 3-6 11-9 while Tomas Cibulec and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic got the better of Rick Leach and Brian MacPhie of the United States 7-6(10), 6-2.
