Australia name Adelaide as venue for India tie
Australia will play India at Adelaide's Memorial Drive in their Davis Cup qualifier in September, Tennis Australia announced on Monday.
TA president Geoff Pollard said Memorial Drive, venue of the Australian men's hardcourt championships which precede the Australian Open in January each year, would be ideal.
"Over the last few years Memorial Drive has been the scene of great success in Australian Davis Cup history with victory over the Czech Republic in 1997 and more recently in 2000 when we triumphed against Germany," Pollard said.
"And as (world number one) Lleyton Hewitt's home city, that will be a huge boost both for our No.1 player and for generating a great atmosphere for the Australian players."
Sydney, Adelaide and Hobart all submitted applications to stage the World Group promotion-relegation playoff from September 20-22.
Davis Cup finalists each of the past three years, Australia were thrown into a playoff with India after a first round loss to Argentina last month.
