Salgaocar score narrow
win over JCT

Former champions Salgaocar exploited a sloppy defence to overcome a fighting JCT Mills by a solitary goal in their Tata National Football League match in Ludhiana on Saturday.

After a barren first half, Alex Ambrose scored the match-winner for Salgaocar in 26th minute of the second session from a neat pass by Dharanjit Singh from the right flank.

Ambrose, who received the pass following a goalmouth melee, beat rival custodian Arvind Kumar hands down.

With this hard-earned victory, Salgaocar have 23 points from 13 matches while JCT remained static on seven points.

Despite playing without their key striker Hardeep Sangha, the millmen who dominated the proceedings in the first half, were themselves to blame for not scoring as Rampal, Jaswant and Hardeep Gill failed to utilise the opportunities that came their way.

Salgaocar also wasted two chances.

JCT will taken East Bengal in their next match on March 6.
