Humpy finishes fifth
Men's Grandmaster-elect Koneru Humpy (Elo-2486) won her last round match against IM Sergei Erenburg of Israel to finish fifth in the First Saturday Grandmasters chess tournament at Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday.
In the concluding round, 13th, the Indian prodigy played with white pieces and won in 51 moves.
The game went on Slav defence lines and Humpy opened g file, playing h4 on the 21st move. She mobilised all her pieces to the king side and built up a strong attack on black's king to win.
Earlier in the 12th round, Humpy was outsmarted by Israel's International Master Postny Evgeny (2482). Playing with black pieces, the 15-year-old, the youngest woman Grandmaster in the country, succumbed to Postny's manoeuvres in 56 moves in a game involving four knights variation.
GM Vajda Levente of Romania won the tournament with 9.5 points.
