Sania loses in second round
Indian junior lass Sania Mirza crashed out of the Australian Open tennis championships losing in the second round of the girls' singles on Thursday.
The Hyderabadi girl, seeded 12th at the Open, lost to Samantha Stosur of Australia 2-6, 1-6.
Earlier, she had defeated Ivana Jovanovich of New Zealand 6-2, 6-4 in the first round.
It was a tough match for the 13-year-old Indian girl against the Australian, who is about to turn 18, is one of the top-rated Australian juniors.
Stosur broke Sania thrice in each set to win the match in just 39 minutes. The Indian just managed to break the Aussie just once in the first set.
But, the Aussie could not continue her good form in the third round match later in the day, and lost to Maria Sharapova of Russia 4-6, 1-6.
Later in the day, Sania and Da-Jung Hong of Korea lost to top seeds Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia and Matea Mezak of Crotia 2-6, 4-6 in the second round match of the girls' doubles.
