Bindra bags silver in Luxembourg
World record holder Abhinav Bindra started his new year on a promising note, winning the
silver medal in the RIAC 2002, the first leg of the month-long European Circuit shooting championship in Luxembourg.
Bindra, who had tallied 593 in the preliminary rounds, shot 102.8 in the final held early this morning for an
aggregate of 695.8.
World champion Dick Boshman fired a total of 702.8 (597+105.8) for the gold medal while the bronze was claimed by Vedul Edar of Norway with a score of 693.6 (591+102.6).
"I am pleased with my performance. For me, high scores are more important than bagging a medal. I want to shoot most
consistently in 2002 and finish the season with an average score of 595 plus," Bindra said after his silver-medal winning
feat.
Interestingly, Bindra had won a silver in this tournament last year too to start his dream run during which he bagged
six gold, four silver and two bronze medals in the circuit.
