Israel's Inbar stuns top seed Amanjot
Israel's Amit Inbar stunned top seed Amanjot Singh of India with a straight set victory and stormed
into the boys' singles semi-finals in the Bharat Petroleum ITF
Junior world ranking tennis tournament in Kolkota on Thursday.
The unseeded Israeli conceded the first three games but
bounced back brilliantly with some high qualilty tennis to
oust the fancied top seed 6-3, 6-3 on a day which saw two other
seeded players bite the dust.
Second seeded Jaco Mathew of India was also shown the
door by fifth seed compatriot Somdev Dev Varman while
qualifier V M Ranjeet continued his giant-killing act as he
demolished third seed Rishi Behl of India.
omdev Dev Varman started on a tentative note and
conceded the first set but raised his game by several notches
from then on to carve out a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory over second
seed Mathew to secure a berth in the last four stage.
Ranjeet, who has been the surprise package of the meet
after entering the main draw through the qualifiers, came
within sniffing distance of the coveted title with another
superb display.
Displaying an aggressive brand of tennis, Ranjeet
conceded the first set but staged a brilliant comeback to
eventually romp into the semi-finals with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0
victory over third seed Rishi Behl, in a tussle which lasted
nearly one-and-half hours.
