Isha Lakhani is given a fright
Second seed Isha Lakhani overcame several anxious moments before suppressing Yung-Jan Chan of Chinese
Taipei to move into the girls' singles second round in the ITF
Junior World ranking tennis tournament in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Lakhani appeared a trifle erratic in the first set but
found her bearings in the nick of time to carve a hard-fought
7-6 (7-4), 6-1 victory over her spirited opponent on a day which saw no major
upsets.
Third seed Sanna Bhambri did not have to sweat much as she spanked wild card entrant Shivika Burman 6-0, 6-1 to romp
into the second round.
The going was quite easy for fourth seeded Ariane
Stefanie Rosa of Indonesia, who prevailed over Tanya Ahuja with
a facile 6-1, 6-1 victory, while fifth seeded Nandita
Chandrasekhar got the better of Sharanya Pattabi 6-4, 6-2 to
move into the next round.
The eighth-seeded Krushmi Chheda also had a rather easy
first round encounter as she demolished qualifier Swathika
Kandaswamy with a 6-1, 6-3 scoreline.
