BSF, Army XI move to last eight

Border Security Force, Jalandhar, thrashed Delhi's City Football Club 3-0 while Army XI battled to beat a spirited Indian National FC, Delhi, 1-0, in their final league matches to move into the quarter-finals of the Durand Cup football tournament in Delhi on MOnday.

Both BSF and Army X1 topped their respective groups in the pre-quarter-final league round with two consecutive wins, earning six points each.

While BSF will play in Group C of the quarter-final league, the army team will fight it out in Group D.

Twelve teams, divided in four groups consisting three teams each including defending champions Mohun Bagan, will lock horns in the quarter-final league begining on February 6 after a rest day tomorrow.

A brace by left winger J Ouseph and another by D S Negi helped BSF tame a hapless City FC who were no match to their more robust and tough rivals.

On the other hand, twice Delhi league champions Indian National, who drew their earlier match, had to pay the price for missing four gilt-edged chances before surrendering to the armymen.

The all-imporant goal for army team was scored by striker Lal Sangliana in the 70th minute of the match.
