Sampras won't share secrets with Davis Cup mates
Pete Sampras is looking forward to teaming up with Andy Roddick in the first round of the Davis Cup but he still regards him as a rival and says he will not be sharing all his hard-won knowledge with the youngster.
"We are definitely, you know, going to be in competition here for the next couple of years," Sampras said in a telephone interview organised by the ATP on Friday.
"Andy's...definitely a rival; someone that I could compete against over the next couple of years. So...I wouldn't give him too much of my knowledge," Sampras said.
Roddick, a wildcard entrant, pulled off a shock 7-6 6-3 win over Sampras in last year's Miami Ericsson Open -- their only meeting to date.
Sampras and 19-year-old Roddick will feature in America's Davis Cup team when they meet Slovakia on February 8-10 in Oklahoma City.
James Blake and Todd Martin are the other members of the U.S team, which is captained by Patrick McEnroe
Despite his Davis Cup commitments Sampras, who led the U.S. to their last Davis Cup title in 1995, says he is still focused on the majors.
"The drive is still there. The focus is still there. It's just a matter of going out there and winning tennis matches. I am hopefully going to have it click this year a few times and win a major or two."
Sampras, 30, still holds out hope of winning the only major which has eluded him -- the French Open at Roland Garros.
"I look at myself as a dark horse more than a favourite, it is a tough tournament to win. There are a lot of great clay court players," he said.
