Chandra, Advani in last 16
India's Manan Chandra and Pankaj Advani sailed into the pre-quarter-finals of the fourth Asian under-21
snooker championship in Kolkata on Tuesday.
However, the other Indian entry, Kolkata's Sourav Kothari, went down
tamely 0-4 to Thailand's Rattanon Kematat, the second seed, who
had suffered a shock defeat on the opening day to Habib Saba Mehmood
of Bahrain 3-4.
Defending champion Manan Chandra, yet to drop a frame, cruised
past Mohd. Nasdrul K Zakana of Brunei 4-0.
Advani struggled to beat Ali Mohd. Bufaroosha of Kuwait 4-2.
The highlight of the day's play was a stunning display of
flawless snooker by China's Junhui Ding. Following his opening day
4-0 win, he demolished Amin Fikreee of the UAE by four frames
to nil, during which he showed his class with breaks of 88, 49 and 92 in the
first three frames.
He capped his performace with a clearance break of 103 in the concluding frame.
The other Thai entry, Pramual Janthan, won as he liked, against
Brunei's Abdul Aziz Othman 4-0.
