Rishi Bhel in last eight

Indian junior Rishi Behl entered the quarter-finals of the Brunei Open Junior International Grade-3 tennis event, being played at Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.

Behl, seeded 15th, defeated fellow-Indian Nihal Advani 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 in a pre-quarter-final match.

The Indian will now face third seed Dias Doskarayev of Kazakistan. Doskarayev defeated Brian Hung of Hong Kong 6-0, 7-6(2) in another pre-quarter-final match.

In the other quarter-final matches, 10th seed Wang-Cheng Hsieh of Taiwan will face Il-Hae Kim of Korea; sixth seed GD Jones of New Zealand will take on Hong-Yool Kim of Korea and seventh seed Tai-Wei Liu of Taiwan will face Jeong-Woon Kwon of Korea.

Ninth seed Saurabh Singh lost to seventh seed Tai-Wei Liu of Taiwan 1-6, 2-6 in his pre-quarter-final match.

In the boys' doubles, sixth seed Rishi Behl and Saurabh Singh went down in the second round to the unseeded Malaysian pair of Jonathan Chan and Nikesh Singh 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 while Nihal Advani and Amit Karunakaran lost to second seeded Hiu Tung Yu and Brian Hung of Hong Kong 0-6, 4-6 in the first round.

In the girls' singles, Nidhi Shah lost to third seed Petra Teller of Hungary 1-6, 2-6 in a pre-quarter-final match.

In the doubles, second seed Megha Vakharia and Laosirichon Pichaya of Thailand stormed into the semi-finals, defeating the Indonesian pair of Diana Julianto and Eliza Rustandar 6-4, 6-1 in the quarter-finals.

Earlier, in the first round, Vakharia and Pichaya downed Febri Joanna of Indonesia and Charlene Kuan of Brunei 6-0, 6-0.

Nidhi Shah and Nansi Jharna lost to the South African pair of Michelle Snyman and Susan Erma Delport 4-6, 0-6, while Krushmi Chheda and Lindsay Woon of Malaysia lost to the Indonesian pair of Diana Julianto and Eliza Rustandar 6-7(0), 3-6 in their first round matches.
