Seventh successive draw for
Anand; Kasparov beats Shirov

Indian Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand registered his seventh successive draw in the Corus chess tournament in the The Netherlands, after drawing his ninth round match with Peter Leko of Hungary.

The two Grandmasters mutually agreed to splitting the point after 34 moves.

Except for a second round victory over Sergei Tiviakov, Anand has drawn all his games. Tuesday's draw took his points tally to 5 points.

Garry Kasparov, meanwhile, moved into the joint lead with Alexei Shirov after the Spaniard resigned after 45 moves in their key ninth round match.

With four rounds to go, both Kasparov and Shirov have 6.5 points each.

Two other matches were also drawn, that of Sergey Tiviakov and Jeroen Piket, and Vassily Ivanchuk and Veselin Topalov.
