Indian boys claim Asian TT bronze

India won a bronze medal in the boys' section in the eighth under-17 Asian table tennis championships, being played in Hong Kong.

India lost to Japan 2-3 in the semi-finals.

In the fifth game of the match, Sourav Chakraborty was leading 9-6 but lost the tie at 14-16.

Soumyadeep Roy and Ranbir Das had earlier won a match each for India.

The losing semi-finalists were awarded bronze medals.

China won the gold, beating South Korea in the final.

In the girls' section, India finished fifth.

In the girls' team final, China defeated Chinese Taipei 3-0 and claimed the title for the seventh time. The only time they failed to win the crown was in 1987, when they were beaten by DPR Korea in the final.

Soumyadeep Roy and Mouma Das led the Indian boys and girls' teams respectively.

The tournament ends on December 29.
