Vishal rallies to
overcome Amanjot Singh
Top seeded south paw Sunil Kumar Sipaeya of Chandigarh, Bengal's Vinod Kumar Sewa, Andhra Pradesh's P Vishal and Chatwinder Singh of Chandigarh entered the semi-finals in the
final leg of the Tata Futures tennis tournament, at the Madras
Club on Wednesday.
In the most competitive quarter-final match, Vishal overcame a
first set loss to oust Amanjot Singh of Chandigarh 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to make it to the last four.
Amanjot broke Vishal in the sixth game to win the first set 6-3. However, in
the second, after games went with serve till the fourth game, Vishal took advantage of Aman's lapse in concentration and broke in the fourth and eighth games to win the set 6-2.
Having restored parity, Vishal was in full cry in the third set. He effected breaks in the second and fourth games to take the set in quick time.
Sunil Kumar Sipaeya won without much ado. He trounced Andhra's Anant Sitaram 6-1, 6-4. He broke his opponent in the second and sixth games of the first set and
came back from a 1-4 deficit in the second, after breaking in the fourth, to win the tie.
In the other quarter-final matches, Vinod Sewa beat Maharashtra's Saurabh Kohli 6-4,
6-3 while winner of the Delhi leg Chatwinder Singh, who will meet Vishal in the semi-finals, got a walkover from Parantap Chaturvedi.
