I thought about quitting England - Beckham

England captain David Beckham has said he considered giving up playing for his country after suffering abuse from England fans when he played at Wembley in the past.

Beckham and his United team mates were booed whenever England played at the stadium, which is about to be revamped after closing last year.

"For the Manchester United players, it was a little bit difficult," Beckham told the club's television network, MUTV, on Friday.

"When we met up to play at Wembley, there were certain parts of the crowd that gave us so much abuse you used to turn round to each other and say, 'Is this worth it?'

"The abuse we were getting was absolutely ridiculous but it's turned round now and the England fans have been amazing.

"I look forward to playing for England more now than I did a few years ago. Hopefully going back there won't be the same because things have turned round and...needed to.

"You want to play for your country and it's one of the best feelings ever walking out in your country's shirt."
