Meghalaya school wins
Subroto sub-jr title
St John Bosco boys' school, Sohra, Meghalaya, lifted the sub-junior title in the Subroto Mukherjee
Cup football tournament, defeating St Ignatius school,
Gumla, Jharkhand, by a solitary goal at the Ambedkar stadium in Delhi on Tuesday.
Striker Baistarred Majaw scored the winner for the
Meghalaya school in the 29th minute in a match, dominated by
the north-east side.
The Jharkhand school played with just eight players as the rest were debarred after being found over age.
After coming close on a number of occassions, Majaw scored
the all-important goal off a pass from Kynsai Malngiang following a move by captain Pyndap.
The second half was no different as the Jharkhand goal survived a severe onslaught.
For the Meghalaya side, Bullet Khongjirem was the
playmaker. He went back to collect the balls from inside his
own half and then sliced through the Jharkhand defence dodging
their defenders with ease.
Towards the end of the match, one such run down the middle
forced a hurried clearance. The ball came to Boystarwell, whose
shot ran across the goal line brushing the far post.
In the juniors' final on Wednesday, Government Boys' High School,
Mizoram, will clash with Army Boys, Bangalore.
