World short-course record for British women's relay

Britain have lopped nearly two seconds from their own world short-course record for the women's 4x200 metres freestyle relay.

Karen Legg, Janine Belton, Nicola Jackson and Karen Pickering clocked seven minutes 47.14 seconds in a time-trial at the British short-course swimming championships on Friday, 10th August.

The previous mark of 7:49.11 was set by Claire Huddart, Jackson, Legg and Pickering when they won the event at the world short-course championships in Athens on March 16, 2000.

Jackson, Belton, Legg and Pickering gained a controversial victory in the 4x200 freestyle relay at the long-course world championships in Fukuoka, Japan, last month.

The British quartet finished third but were awarded the gold after Australia and the United States, the first two finishers, were both disqualified.
