Paes-Bhupathi move up

The former World number one pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi began their Olympic campaign with an easy victory over the unseeded pair of Andrei Pavel and Gabriel Trifu of Romania in the first round on Wednesday.

Paes and Bhupathi won 6-3, 6-4. They will face the top seeds Mak Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge next.

The Indians won the first set in 31 minutes. They started the set with a good first serve percentage and converted one break point out of the two they got. Andrei Pavel and Gabriel Trifu had six break points, but couldn't convert even one.

The second set was over in 38 minutes on the same lines as of the first. The Indians maintained their good first serve percentage and got the vital service break. The Romanians again had three break chances, but couldn't convert them.

Poor break-point conversion rate cost the Romanians the match. They had nine 9 break chances compared to 4 by the Indians. The Indians converted half of them and still won.

In terms of aces, the Indians hit four while the Romanians one.
