Greene clocks year's best, sounds warningWorld sprint champion Maurice Greene sent a clear warning to his Olympic rivals by clocking 9.86 seconds, the fastest 100 metres time of the year, at the Berlin Golden League meeting on Friday. The American, who had suffered a rare setback by finishing third in Gateshead, England, on Monday, restored his supremacy with a convincing victory in his last race before the Sydney Games start on September 15. Greene overcame a challenge from training partner Jon Drummond, who led for most of the race before settling for second place in 9.96. Marion Jones was equally impressive as she cruised to a comfortable women's 100 metres victory in 10.78, equalling the fastest time this year she had set in London. The American was in a class of her own again, leaving Savatheda Fynes of the Bahamas a distant second in 11.03. It was the 32nd time Jones had run under 11 seconds. She will now return home to prepare for her trip to Australia, where she will be bidding for five titles.
