Statistical Highlights 7th match: Pakistan v India at Hobart, 21-1-2000Mohandas Menon This match was the 1543rd in Limited over international (LOI) history. This match was Pakistan's 448th and India's 429th in LOIs. Pakistan now equals the tally of Australia to become the second team to play maximum LOI matches. This match was the 80th meeting between the two sides. This was the 15th match to be played at this venue - Bellerive Oval. Interestingly, Pakistan was playing its sixth match - the maximum by a team after Australia's seven, while it was India's only second match here. Debasis Mohanty became the 16th Indian and 115th bowler in LOIs to capture his 50th wicket when he claimed the wicket of Afridi. He was playing in his 39th match. He now has 51 wickets to his credit. The wicket of Youhana has allowed Kumble to equal Srinath's tally of 247 wickets - to become the joint second highest wicket-taker for India after Kapil Dev (253 wickets). The unbeaten 70 by Abdur Razzaq was the second highest by a Pakistani batting at number seven - against India. The best still remains as the 72 (also unbeaten) by Salim Malik at Calcutta on 18-2-1987. Incidentally Razzaq's effort was the fourth highest for Pakistan by a batsman batting at number seven. Razzaq's score was the highest by a Pakistani against India in Australia. The previous highest was the 67 by Ijaz Ahmed in this match, which in turn surpassed Yousuf Youhana's 63 at Brisbane on 10-1-2000. Mohanty who conceded @ 7.6 runs per over in his 10 overs in this match had conceded an identical number of runs per over in the last match he played for India - against New Zealand at Gwalior on 11-11-1999. He had then conceded 38 runs in five overs, without taking a wicket. The 99 run partnership between Tendulkar and Ganguly was by far the highest for this wicket at this venue. It was infact the first 50-plus partnership for the opening wicket at this venue bettering the 47 runs put on by Zimbabweans Andy Flower and Ali Shah against Australia on 14-3-1992. The 99 run partnership between Tendulkar and Ganguly was the ninth such partnership for the first wicket in LOIs. This was the first occasion any Indian openers were missing the hundred partnership for the opening wicket by one run. The nearest they have reached before this was the 98 which was achieved on two occasions - between this same pair also against Pakistan at Toronto on 21-9-1997 and between Navjot Sidhu and Manoj Prabhakar against Sri Lanka at Hyderabad on 18-2-1994. The wicket of Rahul Dravid was Wasim Akram's 150th as a captain. He become the first bowler in LOI history to do so in this capacity. He was captaining Pakistan in his 104th match. Wasim Akram also became the highest wicket taker at this venue with 11 dismissals. His first wicket of Dravid took him past the previous record of 8 wickets by Australian Craig McDermott. Tendulkar's 93 equals the highest score by an Indian against Pakistan in Australia. Mohammad Azharuddin had scored an unbeaten 93 against Pakistan at Melbourne on 20-2-1985. It was Tendulkar's highest score in Australia in a LOI match. His previous highest was the 77 he made against the West Indies at Brisbane on 11-1-1992. Abdur Razzaq became the 16th Pakistani and 116th bowler in LOIs to capture his 50th wicket when he claimed the wicket of Kumble. He was playing in his 36th match. He now has 51 wickets to his credit. Abdur Razzaq (70 not out and 5-48) became the only third all-rounder in LOI history to score a 70 or more runs and capture five wickets in the same match. The others being West Indian Viv Richards and Indian Kris Srikkanth. Razzaq also became the fifth all-rounder in LOIs, who have had the distinction of scoring a fifty-plus and capturing five-or-more wickets in the same match. The full list:
Razzaq's all-round performance was the best for Pakistan in LOIs. The previous best performance was by Aamer Sohail (85 and 4-22) against Sri Lanka at Sharjah on 12-10-1995. It was also the best performance by an all-rounder against India. The only other all-rounder to score a fifty-plus and capture four wickets in the same match against India was Zimbabwean Gary Crocker (50 & 4-26) at Harare on 25-10-1992. Razzaq's 5-48 was now the best by a Pakistani bowler against India in Australia. The previous best was the 3-19 by Shoaib Akhtar in the previous match between the two sides at Brisbane on 10-1-2000. It was Pakistan's 11h win over India in the last 13 matches. It was Abdur Razzaq's fourth man of the match award of his career in 36 matches. He had won an award in the first match of the series against Australia at Brisbane on 9-1-1999.
