Statistical Highlights 6th match: Pakistan v Australia at Sydney, 19-1-2000Mohandas Menon This match was the 1542nd in Limited over international (LOI) history. This match was Pakistan's 447th and Australia's 448th in LOIs. This match was the 54th meeting between the two sides. Stuart MacGill became the 141st player to make an appearance for Australia in LOIs. Mark Waugh (43, on 7) playing in his 213th match became the first Australian and the eighth batsman in LOI history to reach the milestone of 7000 runs. He now has 7036 runs (avg 38.45). Ricky Ponting seems to be having a mixed season. He recorded his third successive duck, after his hundred - 115 - against India at Melbourne on 12-1-2000. Curiously earlier in the season in the Test series, he had recorded three ducks in a row but had then followed this with two successive hundreds - a 197 against Pakistan at Perth and 125 against India at Adelaide. It was his ninth duck of his career in 96 matches and it was his fourth "first-ball" duck. When he claimed his third wicket of Martyn, Pakistani captain Wasim Akram became the first bowler in LOI history to reach a career aggregate of 400 wickets. He was playing in his 285th match. Andrew Symonds' 47 in 26 balls (S/r: 180.77) was the fastest innings played by an Australian against Pakistan. The previous quickest was the 54 in 36 balls (S/r 150.00) by Adam Gilchrist at Lord's on 20-6-1999 in the World Cup final. Australia's 286 was its highest "all-out" total. Australia's previous highest score for the loss of all ten wickets was the 284 against India at Mohali on 3-11-1996. However this total was achieved while batting second. Incidentally, Australia's total was the third highest by a team being dismissed while batting first. The full list:
MacGill's figures of 4-19 was the joint fourth best by a bowler on debut. The top performers on debut being:
Just for the record, the previous best performance by a bowler on debut against Pakistan was the 4-23 by Englishman Adam Hollioake at Birmingham on 31-8-1996. Waqar Younis' 37 was the second highest score made by a number ten batsman against Australia after the unbeaten 38 by Englishman Angus Fraser at Melbourne on 10-1-1991. MCGrath's analysis of 8-0-67-1 (R/o: 8.37) was the most expensive of his career in 106 matches. His previous most expensive spell of his career was the 9.4-0-76-1 (R/o: 7.86) against Sri Lankan at Melbourne on 16-1-1996. Incidentally it was the second most expensive spell (R/o: 8.37) by an Australian, bowling atleast 8 or more overs in a LOI match. The worst still remains with Adam Dale, who had figures of 8-0-70-0 (R/o: 8.75) against South Africa at Bloemfontein on 13-4-1977. Stuart MacGill became the only third Australian, after Merv Hughes (v Pakistan at Adelaide, 11-12-1988) and Brendon Julian (v England at Lord's, 23-5-1993) and the 24th player in LOIs to bag a man of the match award on debut.
