Easy victory for India under-19

India scored an eight wicket victory over Nepal in the Super League stage of the under-19 cricket World Cup yesterday.

After winning the toss and putting Nepal in to bat, the Indians had things their way on a slow wicket at the Police Park ground in Colombo as they dismissed their opponents for 101 runs off 44 overs, with Yuvraj Singh picking four wickets for 15 runs.

In reply, India lost Manish Sharma early, but Ravneet Ricky (35) and Mohammad Kaif (57 not out) played steadily to fashion an eight wicket victory.

In other matches, Australia beat the West Indies by four wickets - thanks to a six off the fifth ball of the penultimate over by T Welsford; Pakistan beat New Zealand by six wickets, with Zahid Saeed claiming 5 for 30 as the Kiwis were bowled 90 in 43.2 overs, and Sri Lanka romped to a seven wicket victory over England. The English batsmen never got to grips with the Sri Lankan spinners and were bowled out for just 123. The Lankans hit up the required 124 runs for the loss of three wickets in just 24.5 overs.
