Gillespie set to make comeback

Australian paceman Jason Gillespie, who broke his right leg in a collision with captain Steve Waugh in Sri Lanka in September, could make his comeback to state cricket on Saturday.

Gillespie is under serious consideration to play for South Australia against Western Australia in a one-day domestic Cup semi-final.

South Australian manager Greg Chappell on Tuesday said Gillespie was looking terrific in club cricket and at training.

"I think he sort of feels that he'd be okay for a one-day game," Chappell said.

"From a bowling point of view he's lost nothing. In fact I'm sure he learned more on his trip to Sri Lanka that will help him."

If the 24-year-old does line-up for South Australia in the crucial match, he could be used as the non-batting bowler, limiting the amount of running he has to do and the time he spends in the field.

Gillespie has been bowling from his full run-up and a shortened approach for his club, Adelaide.

In Gillespie's absence from the national team, Brett Lee has consolidated his place with impressive displays in Tests against India and in the one-day series against Pakistan and India earlier this month.

Gillespie's leg was broken when briefly trapped under the body of Waugh, who suffered a broken nose in the collision as they attempted to catch a high ball in the first Test at Kandy.
