Fatigue forces Ferrero out
Gold Flake Open 2001 Tournament Director Ms.Sheila Maniam announced the withdrawal of Juan Carlous Ferrero from the main draw here today.
"Late last night, we heard from Juan Carlos Ferrero, who said that he was feeling fatigued after the 2000 season, and thought it was best for him to rest an extra week," said Ms Maniam. "Unfortunately, he has had to withdraw from the Gold Flake Open event in January."
"I had a grueling season, having played 28 tournaments, the Olympics and the Davis Cup, and over 70 matches. The end of the season was especially tiring, with two tough matches against Australia in the Davis Cup finals in the last week. After a year like that, I really need the extra rest, because I am feeling extremely fatigued," said Ferrero from Barcelona.
