Statistical Highlights-1st match: West Indies v Zimbabwe at Singapore (Kallang) on 2-9-99

Mohandas Menon

This match was the 1492nd in Limited-Over International (LOI) history.
This match was West Indies's 373rd and Zimbabwe's 126th in LOIs.
This match was only the sixth meeting between the two sides, of which four were in the World Cup and one in India during the Hero Cup in November, 1993. They last met at Hyderabad (India) in the 1996 WC.
The Kallang ground at Singapore became the 133rd ground to host a LOI match. It also became the second ground in Singapore to a host a LOI match after the historic Padang, which had hosted the triangular one-day series (between India-Pakistan-Sri Lanka) in April, 1996.
Australian Darrell Hair was officiating in his 52nd match as an umpire since his first on 14-12-1991, while Pakistani Riazuddin was umpiring his only eighth match since his first, way back on 13-11-1990. This was his first LOI match outside Pakistan.
Arnold "Andy" Mauritus Blignaut, the 21 year-old all-rounder, was the 56th Zimbabwean to make LOI debut. Blignaut, incidentally was coached by Dennis Lillee at the MRF Pace Foundation in January this year. Later this year, he was awarded the Bob Nixon Trophy by the Zimbabwe Cricket Union for the most improved under-21 player.
Alistair Campbell was appearing his 100th consecutive LOI match. He becomes the second Zimbabwean and the sixth player in LOIs to do so. Campbell has been playing continously for Zimbabwe from 19-3-1993 against India at Faridabad. However the record for Zimbabwe is still held by team mate Andy Flower who have now appeared in 114 matches without missing any, since his debut on 23-2-1992 against Sri Lanka at New Plymouth (New Zealand). Just for the record, India's Sachin Tendulkar has appeared in the maximum, consecutive 185 matches from 25-4-1990 to 24-4-1998.
Campbell (80) and later Andy Flower (89) recorded Zimbabwe's highest scores against the West Indies surpassing the previous best of 71 (unbeaten) by Duncan Fletcher at Worcester on 13-6-1983.
Incidentally Andy Flower's 89 was the highest ever individual score by a keeper against West Indies. It obliterates the previous highest of 85 by Sri Lankan Amal Silva at Perth on 2-2-1985. The previous highest by a Zimbabwean keeper against West Indies was 54 by Dave Houghton at Worcester on 13-6-1983.
The 114-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Campbell and Andy Flower was Zimbabwe first hundred partnership for any wicket against the West Indies. The previous best was the 92 for the 5th wicket between Dave Houghton and Duncan Fletcher at Worcester on 13-6-1983.
The above partnership was also the second highest for the fourth wicket at Singapore. The best still remains as 127 between Pakistan's Inzamam-ul Haq and Salim Malik against Sri Lanka on 2-4-1996 at the Padang ground.
The sixth-wicket partnership of 71 runs between Andy Flower and Stuart Carlisle was Zimbabwe's best against West Indies for this wicket, surpassing the previous best of just 37 runs between Fletcher and Kevin Curran at Birmingham on 20-6-1983. It was also Zimbabwe's fourth highest for the sixth wicket against any country in LOIs.
The four dismissals (all catches) by Ridley Jacobs was the best by a West Indian against Zimbabwe bettering the previous best performance of three dismissals (2 cts + 1st) each by Jeff Dujon (at Worcester on 13-6-83) and Courtney Browne (at Hyderabad on 16-2-1996).
Zimbabwe's total of 244-9 in 50 overs was by far their highest against the West Indies in LOIs. The previous highest was the 217-7 in 60 overs at Worcester on 13-6-1983.
The partnership of 113 between Sherwin Campbell and Ridley Jacobs was West Indies' first for the first wicket since last two and half years - when Stuart Williams and Shivnaraine Chanderpaul had put on an unbeaten 200 against India at Bridgetown on 3-5-1997. Since then the West Indies had played 36 matches without an opening century partnership.
The unbeaten partnership of 71 runs between Chanderpaul and Ricardo Powell was West Indies' best against Zimbabwe for the fifth wicket beating the previous best of just 26 runs between Keith Arthurton and Roland Holder at Hyderabad (Ind) on 21-11-93.
