Boon quits, Taylor vacillates

Former Australian Test batsman David Boon will play his last first-class match on Australian soil this week.

Boon, 38, quit Test cricket in 1995 after a distinguished career as an opener and number three batsman.

He will make his farewell in a Sheffield Shield match for Tasmania against New South Wales. NSW is led by Mark Taylor, who is also expected to play for the last time in this match. Taylor, however, has fought shy of making an official announcement of his intention in this regard.

Boon said he would continue as captain-coach of English county team Durham during the northern summer.
