German hurdler tests positive

German hurdler Eric Kaiser has been suspended by the German Track and Field Association (DLV) on suspicion of having taken an illegal substance, the DLV said.

Traces of an illegal growth hormone, Clenbuterol, were discovered in a urine sample taken in the town of Salzgitter on May 15, the DLV said yesterday.

Kaiser, 28, reached the semi-finals of the 110-metre hurdles at the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. He also reached the semi-finals of the World Championships here in 1993, and in Goteborg in 1995.

Kaiser, who was born in Cameroon, first came to prominence in 1990 when he won the World junior decathlon title.

He later turned to the 110-metre hurdles. His best time for the distance is 13.08 seconds. But he has recently been having trouble qualifying for international events.]
