Goodbye to Graf

Steffi Graf said winning the sixth French Open crown today from the brink of defeat against Martina Hingis was the best of her 22 Grand Slam titles and so she will never play again in Paris to preserve this memory.

"This is the last time I have played here because it is so special."

"Every Grand Slam title has its memories, but this is definitely the number 1. It was the toughest and hardest victory of my career in every respect," said Graf, who turns 30 on June 14.

Graf said she would not retire completely, but is now looking forward to Wimbledon, which kicks off in a fortnight. She said she might continue for more than a year, but would not return to the red clay of Roland Garros where she won her maiden Grand Slam title 12 years ago.
