Trist, Crowe to lead Kiwis into 2000New Zealand cricket today named former New Zealand bowler David Trist as coach and ex-captain Jeff Crowe as team manager, in a move that departed from the tradition of appointing batsmen as coach. Trist, 51, and Crowe, 41, will take over from Steve Rixon and John Graham who are set to complete their term at the end of New Zealand's current tour of Britain. New Zealand cricket chief executive Christopher Doig said the Trist-Crowe combination would ''continue to develop the individual skills of the players and the team's strategic vision''. "Trist has a wealth of experience gathered over 17 years as a professional coach in South Africa, The Netherlands and Hong Kong," Doig said in a statement. During Trist's stint in South Africa, he propelled bottom-placed side Eastern Provinces to win the Currie Cup -- the first national cup victory by the side in 100 years. Trist is currently coaching in The Netherlands and will take up his position in September. Crowe has run his own sports management and event company since his retirement from cricket in 1992 and was this year appointed to the board of New Zealand tennis. New Zealand made it to the World Cup cricket semi-finals last month. UNI
