Tudor falls one short of 100 as England win

England raced to victory by seven wickets in the first Test against New Zealand at Edgbaston on Saturday, with nightwatchman Alex Tudor falling just short of the first century of his career.

Fast bowler Tudor, playing in only his third Test, hit 21 fours in an astonishing innings of 99 not out.

After 31 wickets had fallen on the first two days, England made the most of easier batting conditions to wrap up victory by mid-afternoon on the third day.

Resuming on three for one, they knocked off the remaining 205 runs in only 42 overs, giving Nasser Hussain a winning start in his first match as captain.
