Cornhill pulls the plug on EnglandThe England team's continued misery at the international level has induced Cornhill Insurance to announce the end of their sponsorship of home Tests, from the end of next season. Putting a benign spin to it, Cornhill said they were ending an association that began in 1978 because of "changing business needs", and that this had nothing to do with the thrashing the team has been taking lately, both at home and away. Cornhill chief executive Ray Treen said in his media briefing, "We are increasingly using a number of distinctive brand names to address different segments of the insurance market, and as a consequence a corporate brand sponsorship becomes less appropriate." For England cricket, the crisis continues -- and this time, the fight is for financial stability.
