Aussie invitation to hockey teamThe Indian hockey team has been invited to participate in two four-nation tournaments at Sydney and Perth between between April 6 and 16. According to Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) secretary K Jyothikumaran, India's participation in the two competitions will give the players an opportunity to get acclimatised to Australian conditions in the run-up to the Olympics. Terry Walsh, former Australian captain and now coach, had extended the invitation to the IHF during the recently-concluded Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur, asking it to send the teams to play in the two competitions, Jyothikumaran said. He said the Indian team which will participate in a four-nation tourney in Spain, featuring the hosts Canada and Germany, from January 6 to 9, will be announced on December 25 by chairman of the selection committee and IHF president K P S Gill at Jammu where the camp is in progress. The selection trials will be held on December 23 and 24. Jyothikumaran said that the team will also play one Test against Canada on January 11 and two against Belgium on January 12 and 14. He disclosed that Mohammad Riaz, Mukesh Kumar, Anwar Khan, Prabjyot Singh and Rajesh Chauhan had joined the ongoing camp in Jammu. UNI
