Vinod Kambli back among the runsIndia discard Vinod Kambli hit a dazzling 155 as West Zone amassed 544 for the loss of seven wickets in their first innings on the second day of the Duleep Trophy semi-final against East Zone at the Eden Gardens in Calcutta today. At stumps were Iqbal Siddiqi and Bhavin Mehta on 18 and six respectively. Kambli's knock was the highlight of the day. The Bombay batsman took the East Bowling apart during his 305-minute stay at the crease during which he faced 240 balls. He hit 23 fours and a six to hoist West to a strong position. He was well-supported by skipper Amol Mazumdar, who scored a sparkiling 90 which contained 12 fours. Resuming their innings at an overnight the score of 254 for 2, West suffered an early blow when they lost opener Connor Williams, who was unbeaten yesterday on 105, in the fifth over of the day. Trying to negotiate a sharp swinger from Javen Zaman, Williams was caught by Utpal Chatterjee at gully after adding only two more runs to his overnight total. Thereafter Mazumdar and Kambli held sway in a 189-run fourth wicket partnership. Scoreboard
