Australian academy to train young Indians

India's promising young cricketers will be invited to Australia's renowned cricket academy under a scholarship deal announced today.

The Australia-India Council (AIC) announced before the start of play on the first day of the first Test between the two countries that three of India's best young players will be invited to Australia each season.

''A scholarship like this can only help to make those youngsters into better players,'' Australian Cricket Board chairman Renis Rogers said.

''And that must benefit not only Indian cricket, but also the future good health of the game at an international level.''

The AIC said it had donated 18,000 dollars (US 11,340 dollars) to cover the costs of next year's scholarships and was hoping to develop the plan into a long-term scheme.
