Paes, Paradorn to clash in semis

Indian ace Leander Paes was forced to drop a set before making the semi-finals of the Bikaji Rajasthan Golden Jubilee ATP Tour Challenger tennis championship.

At the Jai Club courts in Jaipur today, Paes got the better of third seed Ketola Tuomas of Finland 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-3.

Paes, who comitted as many as 61 unforced errors compared to 54 by his rival, had to struggle for 144 minutes to earn a meeting with top seed Srichaphan Paradorn of Thailand in tomorrow's semi-final.

Paradorn had an easier passage, trouncing seventh seed Iwabuchi Satoshi of Japan 6-4, 6-4 in a little under an hour in the another quarter-final.

Cowan Barry, the eighth seeded Briton, caused a major upset - the first in the championship - when he shocked second seed Navarra Mose of Italy 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Another Briton, fourth seed Delgado Jamie, the finalist at the Lucknow Challenger, got a walk over as Terachi Takahiro of Japan did not take the court after having sprained his left index finger.

The second semi-final will thus be played between Delgado and Cowan.
