Another big win for Indian eves

Giving yet another scintillating display, India whipped debutantes Kazakhstan 9-0 while defending champions South Korea were held to a 1-1 draw by China in the Hero Honda fourth women's Asia Cup Hockey tournament in Delhi today.

India, who routed Malaysia 8-0 in the opener yesterday, outplayed last minute entrants Kazakhstan and led 2-0 at the lemon break.

The Indians took time to settle down but once they found their rhythm, totally rattled their rivals from central Asia.

However their weakness in penalty-corner conversions was exposed as they converted only five of the 13 they got.

Ace striker and former skipper Pritam Rani, skipper Sita Gussain, Suraj Lata Devi, Manjinder Kaur (two each) and Jyoti Kullu (one) were the goal-getters for the hosts.

The second match of the day was virtually a contest between the Chinese goalkeeper, Nie Yali, and the holders.

The Koreans took an early lead through Soo Jung Kim, who scored off a rebound after Nie Yali blocked Myung Ok Kim's penalty-corner shot. This happened in the 12th minute.
