Mohun Bagan hold the edge

Mohun Bagan will hold the edge when they take on Bangladesh champions Muktijoddha Sangsad tomorrow in the East Asia first round match of the19th Asian Club Football Championship at the Salt Lake stadium in Calcutta.

With the advantage of playing on home ground, and before a vociferous crowd, Bagan coach 'Dronacharya' Syed Naeemuddin is hopeful of clinching the issue in the first leg itself.

The Bagan forward line, led by the in-form Nigerian Chima Okerie, and new recruit Emeka Achilefu, should prove too strong for the visitors. However, Naeemuddin is a bit worried about his defence which has looked vulnerable in the Calcutta league matches and against the other big teams of the country.

The Bangladeshi outfit has a number of internationals, including their skipper Jewel Rana, Naquib and a couple of Nigerian recruits, who are capable of changing the complexion of the match any time.

''We are taking them very seriously and it is going to be a see-saw battle,'' Naeemuddin said.
