A new avtaar for the Matara Mauler

Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya said that he has revised his batting technique, because bowlers have become familiar with his style.

From obscurity of a fishing village a few years ago, Jayasuriya has risen to earn the nickname 'Matara Mauler' and helped put Sri Lanka on top in world cricket.

In recent months however, his bat has spoken at less than full volume -- a sorry season climaxing during the recently concluded three-nation tournament in Sharjah when he failed to produce a single innings of the kind that had once made him the terror of opposing bowling sides.

Jayasuriya says that of late, bowlers have concentrated on his weak points, going round the wicket to trap him leg before or hit his stumps.

While he is not prepared to disclose his new technique, he told reporters in Colombo that he is determined to play the role of Sri Lanka's batting mainstay in future tournaments.

Sri Lanka is slated to tour Australia in January.
